Tips for Testing the Purity of Shilajit

Pure Shilajit has plenty of health benefits like fighting against blood sugar, psychological disorders, and even diabetes. It is known to treat premature aging and sexual problems in males. Shilajit is one of the rarest ayurvedic medicines available on earth and hence is not readily accessible. Due to this, there have been instances of fake Shilajit being used in the stead of the real one. The former does no benefit to the person consuming it, and therefore, it is important to differentiate between the real and unreal Shilajit before using it. Some of the ways to do so are as follows:

Flame test

Pure Shilajit, when burned over a flame, does not produce any smoke at all. An artificial Shilajit, on the other hand, zeroes down to smoke and ash. This is the quickest and the easiest way to differentiate between real and artificial Shilajit.

Solubility test

Shilajit, when pure, is completely dissolved in plain water. This is, by far, the most comfortable way of differentiating pure Shilajit from fake Shilajit. The capsule breaks into pieces and blends with the water. The color of the real Shilajit solution turns golden black after about 5 minutes.

Dissolving heavy metals

Pure Shilajit has the property of absorbing heavy metals like mercury into itself. To test the purity of Shilajit, mix some Shilajit with some mercury and allow them to react. Mercury will break down into small pieces and blend into pure Shilajit instead of staying aloof and inert. This method is not very easy to undertake since mercury is not easily available. Also, it is a little hazardous to work with heavy metals without suitable precautions.

 Insolubility test

This is a rather reverse test which causes fake Shilajit to dissolve completely in alcohol. Contradictingly, real or pure Shilajit does not. Real Shilajit will never dissolve in alcohol and will not blend to become a homogenous solution.

Texture

Real Shilajit does not lose its shape and does not convert into granules even when subject to any external condition. Instead, it converts to a soft, fleshy, gummy kind of substance when in warm temperature or external pressure. It solidifies and hardens when chilled. Fake Shilajit will break down into granules when force is applied to it.

Conclusion

The above ways are all easy to carry out in order to test the purity of your Shilajit. The mentioned experiments make use of water, alcohol, and flames, which are all readily accessible. Adopt the following ways to undermine the purity of the Shilajit you possess.
