How to treat Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) at home

The most effective home remedy for curing UTI is to take in a lot of vitamin C to increase the acidity inside the bladder by lowering the pH balance.  The chances of contracting urinary tract infection rises with an increase in pH and in order to counteract that, taking a lot of vitamin C from natural sources and supplements is a good home treatment.

PH-Scale

Vitamin C and pH balance

Medical experts say that if a body takes more vitamin C, exceeding the daily dose that is ideally required, then the body composition will veer towards acidic.  In simple terms, pH balance is the proportion of the body’s acidic or alkaline content.  Hence, if a body contains less alkaline content in proportion to acidic content, then the pH balance is considered low.  Similarly, if the alkaline proportion is greater when compared to the acid content, then the pH balance is high.  Hence, the measurement of pH as 7.0 is an indication that the body is well balanced and in between being either acid or alkaline.

Should the home treatments for UTI have high pH or low pH balance?

It is said that vitamin C leads to acidity inside the bladder that prevents microorganisms such as E coli to grow and survive.  Furthermore, lactobacilli, the good bacteria that exists inside our body is found inside our urinary tract and bladder.  The main purpose of these protective bacteria is to fight the invasive bacteria that try to attack the urinary system.  Hence, in order to perform well, the lactobacilli need an acidic environment to thrive.  Therefore, taking additional vitamin C will help the strengthening of good bacteria that will help combat the bad bacteria.

Is a high pH level good or low pH level?

It is not actually about deciding one pH level out of the two, but it is more of maintaining a fine balance between the alkaline and acid.  For instance, deficiency of the alkaline component results in hair loss.  The figure of 7.0 is the ideal pH balance and if in the examination our pH comes out to be lower than that, then our body is acidic and we need to balance that by taking in more alkaline foods.

Similarly, if our pH is exceeding 7.0, then our pH is on the higher side, which makes us more susceptible to UTI.  For this, we should take foods rich in vitamin C along with supplements as well as water.
