Effective ways to get rid of Nummular Eczema at home

Eczema is a skin condition characterized by the appearance of rashes, red patches and blisters, followed by symptoms like flaking and itching. Usually caused by dry skin, allergies or other genetic factors, the condition has several variants like dyhisdrotic eczema, atopic dermatitis and nummular eczema. Among these, nummular eczema can be characterized by the appearance of reddish, coin shaped spots all over the body.

You can treat eczema by focusing on three factors, i.e. reducing itchiness, reducing inflammation and healing the skin. You should consult a physician before opting for any kind of treatment for the condition though. Accordingly, here are some of the more common treatment methods for nummular eczema.

Nutritional Remedies

Studies have revealed that certain nutritional supplements and dietary changes can be of help in reducing eczema and its symptoms. Individuals with the condition are advised to avoid foods that commonly cause allergies. These include peanuts, dairy products, wheat, etc. They should also stay away from foods that can cause inflammation, including sugar, meats and refined foods.

Individuals with eczema are encouraged to opt for nutritional supplements like fish oil, flavonoid and Vitamin C supplements on a regular basis to reduce the symptoms of eczema. However, before opting for these supplements and dietary changes, it is imperative to consult a qualified physician regarding the same.

Herbal Creams
Research done by the University of Maryland Medical Center has indicated that using herbal creams and salves can help reduce the occurrence of eczema and its symptoms, including itching and irritation. One of the more common remedies for nummular eczema happens to be chamomile cream and is recommended for the condition. Other herbal remedies that show promising results with minimal side effects include licorice, witch hazel, chickweed, St. John’s Wort and sarsaparilla. As in the previous case, medical supervision is required for these herbal medicines as they may interact with other medications to cause adverse side effects.

Bleach Bath

The irritation and itchiness caused by nummular eczema would cause individuals to scratch their skin vigorously. This in turn would cause the microbes present on the surface of the skin to spread to other areas of the body, thereby worsening the infection.

According to a research done by the Rady Children Hospital in San Diego, soaking in a bleach bath for about 10-15 minutes can help reduce the symptoms of nummular eczema to a great extent. The bath needs to be made of ½ cup of liquid bleach in 40 gallons of water. After soaking in the water for the required period, you will have to rinse your body with fresh water, pat the skin dry and then apply the prescribed medication. Following this procedure, at least thrice a week, can reduce eczema and its symptoms largely.

Eczema can be a very painful condition to handle. If not treated in time, the infection can spread throughout the body. Here are some detailed remedies that can help an individual overcome the condition and its symptoms.
